The Home of Dual Lena
My introduction to the Reined Cow Horse world was the 2006 Snaffle Bit Futurity. I owned a two-year old named Billy’s Cool Cat. Todd Bergen rode Billy in the futurity and he finished in the top 10. It was my first show horse, my first event and that incredible experience sparked the passion that led me here.
The breeding began with a paint mare I acquired in 2004 named Dual Lena. Her bloodlines were good and she was a flashy paint. She was bred to cut and was shown by Tim Smith. I thought it was a horse I could eventually ride, but I ultimately realized this was a horse to breed. My hope was that she would produce a foal that was as pretty and as talented as she was. I loved paints, but it’s hard to simultaneously breed for color and talent. It becomes a combination of good genetics, knowledge of the breeding process, bloodlines and a whole lot of luck.
I bred Dual Lena in 2008 to Nic it in the Bud and Smart Chic Olena. The breeding out of Nic it in the Bud produced a paint and the breeding out of Smart Chic Oelna produced twins–one a solid color and the other a paint. All three were successful in their own right. Four out of five of Dual Lena’s offspring to date have been attractive paints.
My intention and desire is to breed Lena and her offspring in a place that is more than just a ranch, but rather a home where the outcome is as distinctive and unique as their birthplace.
